Cape Town City appoint ex-Chiefs boss as Technical Director

Cape Town City have announced the appointment of Muhsin Ertugral as Technical Director as well as interim head coach until the end of the season.

The Citizens parted ways with Eric Tinkler on Tuesday, after the club’s poor start to the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season.

While Bradley Carnell has emerged as a potential long-term successor, Ertugral has been handed the reins having last coached in the Premiership in 2018 as Maritzburg United boss.

A City statement on social media read: “Cape Town City is delighted to announce the appointment of Muhsin Ertugral as Technical Director of the club.

“Muhsin brings a wealth of local and international football experience to the club’s future project, having most recently served as the Technical Advisor of the Turkish national team for the past 4 years.

“Muhsin will step in as head coach until the end of the current season, joining first team coaches Diogo Peral and Lebogang Manyama.”

Tinkler left the club in 12th place on the league standings with just three wins from their opening 10 games.

Ertugral’a former clubs include Kaizer Chiefs, Santos, Ajax Cape Town, Golden Arrows, Mpumalanga Black Aces, Orlando Pirates and Maritzburg.

City are next in action against Kaizer Chiefs on Sunday.
