Brandon Petersen vows Kaizer Chiefs will bounce back: Lessons were learnt from recent losses

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Petersen is positive that the club will bounce back to winning ways after experiencing back-to-back losses despite their positive start to the season.

Amakhosi suffered their first defeat of the season against Sekhukhune United last Tuesday in a match that ended 3-1. Their woes continued when they were edged 1-0 by the Angolan club Kabuscorp in their first match of the CAF Confederations Cup on Saturday.

Chiefs had begun the 2025/26 season on a high note, winning four of their five opening Betway Premiership matches, playing one draw and keeping clean sheets in all those matches. They have collected 13 points and a set for another tough clash against Marumo Gallants on Wednesday.

Speaking during the Carling Knockout launch, the 31-year-old said lessons were learn from their recent defeats and that they will go back to the drawing board and fix their mistakes.

“I think that’s just part of football. You’re not going to win all your games. I think Sekhukhune obviously took their chances, and that’s sometimes how football plays out, and we say, ‘you never lose, you win, or you learn. So, the lessons we take out of that game are very important,” said Petersen.

The Glamour Boys are currently without head coach Nasreddine Nabi, who the club reported will remain sidelined pending an internal matter that is currently being addressed. The goalkeeper confirmed that the team remains focused on the tasks at hand, despite the unpleasant news.

“I think at the end of the day, this is the nature of football, you know, coaches come and coaches go, players come and players go, you can’t dwell too much on that. Obviously, it’s not nice, to lose a coach.

“At the end of the day, we have a job at hand, we have fixtures to look forward to. So we can’t dwell on what’s been happening. For us, it is to stay focused. We have a goal in mind, and it’s for us to go and perform to the best of our ability, every game, every opportunity we get,” he concluded.

Chiefs will have a chance to overturn their defeat when they meet Kabuscorp in the second leg on Saturday, 27 September at FNB Stadium in a bid to avoid a first-round exit in their continental competition campaign.
