A dramatic week in the Betway Premiership saw unbeaten runs extended, title contenders stumble, and the relegation battle intensify.
TS Galaxy power past AmaZulu in confident win
TS Galaxy extended their unbeaten run to four matches with a commanding 3-1 win over AmaZulu at Mbombela Stadium.
Seluleko Mahlambi opened the scoring early, expertly finishing a long ball from Khulumani Ndamane. Despite Thabiso Kutumela’s missed chance, AmaZulu fell further behind when Keegan Allan deflected into his own net.
The visitors’ woes deepened as Siyanda Hlangabeza was sent off before Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya briefly revived hope with a header from Hendrick Ekstein’s free-kick.
However, substitute Mory Keita sealed the result with a composed finish ten minutes from time.
The Rockets, now fourth in the standings, continued their resurgence after a slow start, while AmaZulu saw their four-game unbeaten streak come to an end.
Durban City hold Stellenbosch in a gritty goalless draw
Durban City continued their solid start to the season with a determined 0-0 draw away to Stellenbosch on Wednesday.
The visitors frustrated a Stellenbosch side desperate to end their losing streak, defending with structure and showing glimpses of attacking intent.
Sanele Barns and Devon Titus both threatened for the hosts, but City’s backline – marshalled by Mfanafuthi Mkhize and goalkeeper Darren Keet – stood firm. Letsie Koapeng came closest for City, forcing a key save from Sage Stephens after the break.
Though neither side could find a breakthrough, City’s tactical discipline, aggressive pressing, and composed transitions again underlined their top-flight credentials.
While Stellenbosch snapped a four-game losing run, the result sees City extend their points tally and reputation as one of the PSL’s most difficult sides to break down.
Sekhukhune remain unbeaten despite being held at home by Chippa
Sekhukhune United remain at the top of the Betway Premiership table despite being held to a 1-1 draw by Chippa United at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.
The Chilli Boys took the lead seven minutes after the halftime interval when Boy Madingwane made a great run from deep and showed good composure to finish past home goalkeeper Toaster Nsabata.
Sekhukhune, though, were awarded a penalty when defender Seun Ndlovu was adjudged to have fouled Samkele Sihlali following a long ball into the box.
Bradley Grobler stepped up and converted the spot kick with 11 minutes remaining to level matters on the scoreboard.
The home team were then awarded another penalty in stoppage time, but Grobler could not get his brace after being brilliantly denied by visiting shot-stopper Stanley Nwabali.
Richards Bay secured maximum points at home
Richards Bay picked up their third win of the Betway Premiership season after a 1-0 home victory against Magesi on Wednesday.
The only goal of the game came with 14 minutes remaining when Lindokuhle Zikhali found the back of the net with a header from close range.
The three points move the hosts up to eighth in the standings, while Magesi suffered their fourth defeat to sit 13th on the log.
Orbit College picked up its second league win of the season
Orbit College moved out of the relegation zone after a vital 1-0 win against Polokwane City at the Olympia Park Stadium.
After a goalless first half, the deadlock was broken on the hour mark when Mbulelo Wagaba found the top corner with a brilliant shot from just inside the box.
It was a second win of the campaign for the home team and they move up to 12th in the standings while it was a second loss for Rise and Shine who are seventh.
