Betway Prem: "We are on the right track, we've not arrived yet" - Magesi coach Owen Da Gama

Magesi coach Owen Da Gama was impressed with his side’s performance as they recorded just their third win of the Betway Premiership season on Tuesday.

The Premiership newbies defeated an in-form Polokwane City 1-0 at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium with a goal from Thabang Sibanyoni after 20 minutes.

It was a second successive league win for Magesi after their overcame Cape Town City 2-0 last time out.

The result saw Da Gama’s side move onto 14 points from 17 games, above suspended Royal AM in 15th place, a point adrift of Marumo Gallants and top-flight survival.

The head coach said in the Citizen: “I think it is a culmination of hard work and tactical acumen.

“I think we have approached both games so far solid and we made sure we understand their strengths and their weaknesses as well.

“I think we capitalised on that [and] all credit must go to the players. They are working hard and they want it badly.”

Da Gama added that his team are on the right track but cannot afford to be complacent.

“When I got here the team was divided into groups, so I tried to fix that and get it right on the field. I think we have managed to move a step closer to where I think we can perform without pressure,” he said.

“There is still a lot of pressure, but at least there are good signs. It’s a good sign for me that we are on the right track, we’ve not arrived yet.”

Magesi are next in action away to AmaZulu at the Moses Mabhida Stadium this weekend. Kick off on Saturday is set for 20:00 on Saturday evening.
