Betway Prem: Update ahead of Soweto Derby

Anticipation for the upcoming Soweto Derby is at an all time high, with Orlando Pirates confirming that over 40,000 tickets have already been sold.

The Betway Premiership clash between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs is scheduled for February 1st at 15:30. This will be their first league encounter of the 2024/25 season, with the reverse fixture to be played in May 2025.

Just days after tickets went on sale, the Buccaneers announced on Wednesday that half the capacity of FNB Stadium has already been sold.

“Tickets for the Soweto Derby are selling fast. With over two weeks still to go before the eagerly anticipated Betway Premiership encounter, over 40,000 tickets have already been snapped up,” the club stated.

General stand tickets are available at TicketPro outlets nationwide, starting at R100.

In addition, Stadium Management South Africa (SMSA) announced the implementation of a park and ride system for the highly anticipated clash.

This initiative aims to address the long-standing issue of traffic congestion experienced during the Derby and to expand the public transport options available to attendees.

The decision follows the tremendous success of the park and ride option at the recent Chris Brown concert, where nearly 20,000 patrons utilised the service on each concert day.

“The massive success of the park and ride option at the Chris Brown concert demonstrates the significant demand for alternative and convenient transport solutions. We are excited to extend this option to Derby attendees, ensuring a seamless and hassle-free match-day experience,” Bertie Grobbelaar, CEO of SMSA, stated.
