Betway Prem: Chiefs shot stopper reflects on January signings

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma has praised the club’s recent January signings, highlighting that they have quickly demonstrated the qualities that made them top targets for the team from the outset.

At 29, Bvuma began the season as the third-choice goalkeeper, behind Brandon Petersen and Fiacre Ntwari. However, he has since seized the number one spot, firmly establishing himself as a key player in the team.

Over the course of 11 matches, he has kept five clean sheets and conceded only seven goals, showcasing his ability and resilience after a period of uncertainty in the position for Amakhosi.

Bvuma’s solid performances come alongside a revitalized Kaizer Chiefs squad, where the contributions of recent signings, including Thabo Cele, Glody Lilepo, and Tashreeq Morris, have been pivotal in the team’s recent upturn in form.

Their influence on the pitch has not gone unnoticed, with Chippa United head coach Thabo September praising them following his side’s 3-0 defeat to Chiefs this past weekend.

“I think they settled in very well, Morris, Lilepo and Thabo, these are good players, international players, I feel like they have shown from the word go why the team has decided to sign them,” Bvuma remarked.

“I am very happy for them and we’re looking forward to having more games with them and as you saw, they have been helping the team and that’s what we need you know. So we’re helping each other and as I said, they’ve settled in well and we can’t wait to keep going with them.”

Bvuma also acknowledged the growing excitement among the Chiefs’ fanbase as the team’s performances improve. With supporters now returning in increasing numbers to FNB Stadium and across the country, he emphasized the importance of maintaining momentum as they prepare to face the unpredictable SuperSport United in their next match on Tuesday.

“We have been playing very well, good football, they supporters are coming back to the stadiums and that’s what we need, having them in the stadium pushes us to give more, it pushes us not to give up, and give our best,” Bvuma explained.

“Having their support behind us, helps us to push over the line and continue playing good football and getting good results.

“SuperSport is a big team, we know what they are capable of, they have a very good coach in Gavin, we know it won’t be easy, we played them twice already this season, winning one and losing one – we’re looking forward to it.

“We know what they can do, but we need to focus on what we can do – that’s been working well for us.”

Kick off at the FNB Stadium is set for 19:30 later this evening.
