After being sidelined for nearly two months, Cape Town City midfielder Fortune Makaringe has shared promising updates about his recovery from an ankle injury.
The 31-year-old player, who sustained the injury in November last year, is recovering faster than expected.
The setback occurred just a few months after Makaringe joined Cape Town City from Orlando Pirates, where he spent five years. At the time of his injury, Eric Tinkler was still managing the Mother City-based club.
With a new coach, Muhsin Ertugral, now at the helm, Makaringe remains optimistic about returning to action soon.
“I’ve been out for some time now, but I’m taking good steps in my progress. Actually, I’m healing quicker than expected,” Makaringe told FarPost.
“I still believe I’m young and a happy footballer who is trying, by all means, to take care of himself, so I can play football for a long time to come.”
Before his injury, Makaringe made eight appearances for the Capetonians. His last match was a 3-0 defeat against Mamelodi Sundowns.
As the second half of the season approaches, he is eager to fully recover and help his team climb higher on the Betway Premiership table.
Since Muhsin Ertugral’s arrival, Cape Town City has shown signs of improvement, winning two games and losing one.
The team currently sits in seventh place on the league table with 17 points from 13 matches. Makaringe’s return could provide a much-needed boost as the Citizens aim to climb further up the standings.
