Betway Prem: Arthur Zwane Takes Sole Charge of AmaZulu After Vusi Vilakazi Resigns as Co-Coach

Arthur Zwane will now assume sole responsibility for managing AmaZulu FC after Vusi Vilakazi resigned from his position as co-coach, citing the need to attend to “personal matters.”

Zwane and Vilakazi were appointed as co-coaches in October of the previous year following the dismissal of former head coach Pablo Franco Martin. Under their guidance, AmaZulu experienced a notable improvement, climbing to fifth place in the league standings.

Vilakazi’s resignation comes as a surprise, especially given the positive momentum the team has enjoyed under his and Zwane’s leadership. The decision to step down is effective immediately, leaving Zwane to lead the team alone for the remainder of the season.

A statement from the club said: “AmaZulu Football Club has announced the resignation of Co-Head Coach Vusi Vilakazi, who wished to step down with immediate effect.

“In his letter of resignation, Vilakazi referred to the personal matters (which) require his urgent attention, making it impossible for him to fully commit to his responsibilities at the club.

“Club President Sandile Zungu has accepted Vilakazi’s request to be relieved of his duties with immediate effect. This transition leaves Arthur “Phakimpi” Zwane as the sole Head Coach, going forward.”

Zungu added: “On behalf of the entire Usuthu family — players, technical and administrative personnel, supporters and board members — we wish Mpiyakhe all the best in his future endeavours.”

The departure of Vilakazi has prompted questions about the club’s future direction, but Zwane, who has previously earned praise for his work with the team, will be expected to continue the strong performance in the league and lead the squad through the remainder of the campaign.

The coaching change comes at a critical point in the season, and AmaZulu fans will be hoping Zwane can maintain the club’s impressive form and push for further success in the league.

Usuthu’s next encounter will take place on Sunday when they host Cape Town City in a Betway Premiership clash at the King Zwelithini Stadium.
