Benni McCarthy Sends Clear Message to Kaizer Chiefs: ‘If They Want Me, They Know Where to Find Me’

Benni McCarthy has once again addressed the rumours that just won’t go away — the constant whispers linking him with a move to Kaizer Chiefs.

And true to form, the former Bafana Bafana striker didn’t dance around the issue for long.

Speaking on Marawa Sports Worldwide, the Kenya national team’s head coach made it clear that if Amakhosi are interested, the door isn’t locked.

“If they want me, they know where to find me,” he said.

Chiefs Under Pressure

The Glamour Boys are navigating stormy waters under embattled co-coaches Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef.

Amakhosi have stumbled badly in recent weeks, and patience among supporters is wearing thin.

Their 3-0 humiliation at the hands of arch-rivals Orlando Pirates in the Soweto Derby at FNB Stadium was painful enough.

But instead of bouncing back, Chiefs sank deeper — suffering a 1-0 defeat to Richards Bay just days later.

Those back-to-back defeats have dealt a serious blow to their Betway Premiership ambitions, and as expected, the noise around the coaching situation is growing louder.

And whenever Chiefs search for answers, McCarthy’s name always seems to surface along with that of Pitso “Jingles” Mosimane.

“What Ifs Don’t Exist for Me”

When asked directly about possibly taking over at Naturena, McCarthy initially played it cool.

“But they are happy, man.”

But pressed further — especially in light of the club’s recent struggles — McCarthy offered a more thoughtful take.

“It’s football. In football, things happen. Yes, I understand the frustration because Derby Day is massive and important. They didn’t cover themselves in glory after the weekend, but they are a good team with very good players.”

McCarthy, who has seen his fair share of near-misses in coaching opportunities, including a previous situation with Pirates that never materialised, made it clear he’s no longer entertaining hypotheticals.

“If nobody has come knocking on my door, then it means they are happy with what they have,” he added. “If you knock on someone’s door, you’re not happy. There are a lot of ‘what ifs’ — but what ifs don’t exist for me anymore. I’ve been in plenty of situations where things were close, and then nothing happened.”

He went on to issue a strong “come get me” plea to the Chiefs hierarchy, who must be contemplating a coaching change after the recent showings.

“If they want me, they know where I am. They know where to find me and they know how to conduct to make it happen. But if not, then it’s just rumours.”
