Bafana Bafana coach Stuart Baxter believes that the right candidate to coach Kaizer Chiefs is an individual who understands what it takes to achieve success.
The Englishman has been linked with a return to the Soweto giants in recent times after having spent a successful period with the Glamour Boys from 2012 until 2015.
Chiefs are searching for a replacement for Steve Komphela whose disastrous three-year stint as boss came to an end when he resigned towards the end of 2017/18, following a defeat to Free State Stars in a Nedbank Cup semi-final.
Nonetheless, Baxter takes the view that hiring a candidate to coach Amakhosi requires choosing a candidate who possesses all the attributes necessary for success.
Speaking to Y2TV, he said: “I think when clubs choose their coaches, many times they don’t think, is that a coach that can coach this club? They ask, is that a good coach?
“I think also, the coaches don’t say, am I an appropriate coach for that club because they are so flattered, they just take the job.
“And I think the coach needs to ask himself; can I deal with the pressure? Can I produce a brand of football that the people want to see and can I win things? Don’t just think can I pick up that cheque at the end of the month because that’s doomed to failure and the club needs to look at the same thing.
“Is this coach one that will handle the pressure, will handle the big players, will be able to produce younger players, will he be able to give us trophies, will he be able to give us consistency and is he a Sam Allardyce or is he a Pep Guardiola and which one of those do we want and everything in between and I think when you get a marriage that fits then keep hold of your coach and the coach, do your job and enjoy it.”
