Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Shaun Bartlett believes the club needs to sign players who have the correct mentality to manage the pressure and huge expectations.
Chiefs have endured a four year barren spell and their struggles were highlighted in 2018/19 as the side produced one of their worst seasons in history.
The Glamour Boys finished ninth and suffered the ignominy of losing the Nedbank Cup final to National First Division outfit TS Galaxy.
Amakhosi management has since promised there will be radical changes to the squad ahead of 2019/20, including Bartlett.
He told reporters: “I think something that we’ve recognised is that there needs to be a, if I can put it in a better way, template for the type of player that we need at Chiefs.
“Because, you’ve seen it over and over, not just players coming from another club to Chiefs but whether you go from here to the national team, if you don’t perform at a certain level then you’re not good enough.
“Coming to Chiefs is a heavy, heavy badge to carry, you can’t just come and think you can turn on the tap on a Saturday and produce results, you’ve got to do it day-in and day-out.
“And you’ve got to have that mentality that when you get through the gates at Chiefs Village, that ‘I’m a Chiefs player, and I deserve to be here’, but more so show it on the field.”
