Baroka chairman: Interest from Orlando Pirates for two players shows we’re doing something right

Baroka FC chairman Khurishi Mphahlele says the growing interest in his players from top-flight clubs like Orlando Pirates shows they are doing well.

This comes after reports linked winger Kabelo Kgositsile and defender Tshepo Mashiloane with a possible move to the Buccaneers. Both players have been standout performers for Bakgaga this season.

Commenting on the speculation, Mphahlele said the club’s mission isn’t to hold on to players for their entire careers, but rather to give them a platform to grow and eventually move to bigger stages.

“Well, that’s a good thing. If a team like Pirates is interested, it gives me pleasure – it means we’re doing something right,” Mphahlele told FarPost. “I wouldn’t want a player to play and end his career at Baroka.”

“I want players that other teams are interested in. If you’re good enough, top teams should be coming for you. Mashiloane is our top defender – he’s played in every game except one, which he missed due to suspension. Kgositsile has also featured in every match.”

Orlando Pirates have a history of recruiting talent from Baroka, with Evidence Makgopa among the most notable transfers. The striker has since become a regular for both the Soweto giants and the South African national team, Bafana Bafana.
