Bafana Bafana forward Lebo Mothiba has signed a short-term contract with Mamelodi Sundowns, which will run until the conclusion of the season.
The 29-year-old has been without a club since leaving Ligue 1 side RSC Strasbourg during the off-season, where he had spent six years.
In his time at Strasbourg, Mothiba netted 20 goals and provided six assists in 96 appearances, a decent record. However, persistent knee injuries led to both parties agreeing that it was time for a change.
Following speculation about potential moves to various European clubs and a failed transfer to Standard Liege, Mothiba briefly trained with Karlsruher SC in Germany before finding his way back to Sundowns.
He returned to his childhood club in January for a training spell, and after impressing the coaching staff in recent months, he has now signed a contract with Sundowns that runs until the season’s end, with an option to extend.
Although he may not be fully prepared to join the first team just yet, there is hope that he will regain full fitness in the coming month, potentially returning to play for the club where his footballing journey began before he moved to Europe via Diambars Academy.
