Bafana Bafana midfielder Luke Le Roux has officially completed a move to England, joining EFL Championship side Portsmouth FC ahead of the 2025/26 season.
The 25-year-old was unveiled by Pompey after putting pen to paper on a three-year deal. The transfer from Swedish club IFK Varnamo was concluded for an undisclosed fee.
“Pompey have completed the signing of midfielder Luke Le Roux from Swedish side IFK Varnamo for an undisclosed fee,” the club announced on their website.
“The 25-year-old South Africa international has agreed a three-year deal at Fratton Park, which is subject to international clearance and a work permit being issued.”
Le Roux began his football journey at Ikapa Sporting before moving to SuperSport United during the 2016/17 season. He spent a loan spell at Stellenbosch FC before returning to Matsatsantsa, where he developed further over nearly three seasons.
In 2020, he made the switch to Europe, signing for Swedish side Varbergs BoIS. After three seasons there, he joined Dutch outfit FC Volendam but stayed only one year before returning to Sweden to play for Varnamo in 2024.
Now, following a strong season in the Allsvenskan, Le Roux is set to begin a new chapter in England’s second tier, aiming to make an impression in one of Europe’s most competitive leagues.
