Bafana Bafana: South Africa gears up for double header

Under the guidance of coach Hugo Broos, Bafana Bafana has been making steady progress in recent months, with performances across various competitions showing significant improvement.

One of their most recent accomplishments was securing qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Bafana Bafana were placed in Group K for the qualification stage, alongside Uganda, South Sudan, and Congo.

Broos’ leadership was key in guiding South Africa through the qualifiers undefeated. The team achieved four victories and two draws, earning a spot in the prestigious tournament, which is set to take place from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.

Ahead of the excitement of AFCON 2025, Bafana Bafana will also be focused on their journey to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. South Africa is aiming to secure a spot in the tournament by advancing through Group C of the World Cup qualifiers. The group includes Nigeria, Rwanda, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, and Benin.

So far, Bafana Bafana has earned seven points from their four matches. Rwanda and Benin also have seven points, adding an extra layer of competition as the group remains closely contested.

Looking ahead, on March 21, 2025, South Africa will be looking to take another step toward World Cup qualification when they host Lesotho at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium. A victory would be crucial for their qualifying campaign. Just a few days later, they will fly to Benin by charter to face the West Africans, where another win is vital to maintaining their push for a spot in the 2026 tournament, co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
