Bafana Bafana confirms date, venue and kick-off time for upcoming FIFA World Cup match against Nigeria

Bafana Bafana have announced the date, location and kick-off time for their much-anticipated 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Nigeria.

South Africa will host Nigeria’s Super Eagles at the Free State Stadium on Tuesday, 9 September, with kick-off scheduled for 18:00.

“The South African Football Association (SAFA) can confirm that coach Hugo Broos’ charges will welcome the Super Eagles to the Bloemfontein venue at 18h00 on Tuesday, 9 September 2025 just a few days after facing Lesotho in an away 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier at the same stadium on Friday, 5 September 2025,” a statement reads on the SAFA website.

The Hugo Broos-led team is currently topping Group C with 13 points, having won four games, played one draw and suffered one loss. They are followed by Rwanda, which is sitting second with eight points.

The last meeting between the two ended in a 1-1 draw, with goals scored by Themba Zwane for Bafana and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru scoring the equaliser for Nigeria.

Bafana are enjoying a good run of form, having not tasted a loss in their past four qualifier matches, winning three and drawing once. Nigeria, on the other hand, looks to be turning the tide; they won and played a draw in their last two matches of this competition.
