19-year-old Ugandan forward Mustafa Kizza was the best player on the pitch in the opening exchanges and forced Bafana goalkeeper Mondli Mpoto into a good save with a ranging long-range strike towards the top right-hand side of the goal. Bafana were under pressure. Soon after, Cranes captain Isaac Isinde played a neat ball over the top for Dan Serunkuma, who delivered in to the 18-area.

Bafana should’ve done better clearing their lines and the ball almost fell for a Ugandan to tap home from close range, but the danger was averted by Mpoto, who got down bravely to save.

Just before the 20-minute mark, Bafana centre-back Keanu Cupido headed against the woodwork.

In the second stanza Uganda hit the front as Juma Balinya played an excellent through-ball to release Serunkuma in to the box.

He finished with precision in the area. Jemondre Dickens came close soon after to scoring a goal but fired over.

Bafana leveled in the 73rd minute as Singh set up Dickens for the go-ahead goal.

At the death, South Africa were denied on two occasions as Singh and Kgaogelo Sekgota were stopped by the goalkeeper.

The penalties went the way of Bafana who advanced to the final of the competition.
