At The Helm: Sinesipho Mali Returns to Chippa United as New Sporting Director

Chippa United has officially announced the appointment of Sinesipho Mali as the club’s new Sporting Director.

This move marks a significant return for Mali, who previously served as a performance analyst for the “Chilli Boys” from 2017 to 2019.

Mali brings a wealth of experience from various prominent football institutions in South Africa. After his initial stint at Chippa United, he went on to work as a scout for Kaizer Chiefs.

More recently, he was with Sekhukhune United, where he held dual roles as an analyst and head of recruitment. During his time at Sekhukhune United, he played a crucial part in the club achieving its highest-ever points tally in the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season.

Currently, Mali is also the Head of Analyst for Bafana Bafana, the South African national football team. He will continue in this capacity, assisting the national team as they prepare for upcoming tournaments, including the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the conclusion of their FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.

His appointment is part of a broader restructuring at Chippa United, as Mali will be linking up with newly appointed head coach Sinethemba Badela. They are also expected to be joined by Mark Mayambela, who is reportedly set to become the new assistant coach once he completes his UEFA A coaching license in Northern Ireland.

In a statement released by the club, Chippa United expressed their excitement about Mali’s return:

“Since his early days with us, Mr. Mali has gone on to make a significant impact across some of South Africa’s most recognised football institutions.

“He served in key technical roles at Kaizer Chiefs FC as an analyst and later at Sekhukhune United FC, where he operated as both analyst and head of recruitment – helping guide the club to its highest ever points tally in the 2024/25 Betway Premiership.

“He currently serves as Head of Analyst for Bafana Bafana, a role he will continue as the national team prepares for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and concludes its FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.

“We are confident that Mr. Mali will meet the moment. His return is not only a testament to the calibre of leaders shaped within this province, but also a clear signal that Chippa United FC is ready to evolve, mature and lead from the front.”

This appointment signals a clear intent from Chippa United to strengthen its technical and strategic departments, aiming for a new era of growth and success under Mali’s leadership.
