2025/26 Orlando Pirates: Refreshed Sea Robbers Still Have the Same Winning Mentality

Orlando Pirates kicked off their season with a commanding 2-0 victory against Polokwane City in the MTN8 quarter-finals.

This match was more than just a win; it was the first opportunity for supporters to see the team’s new-look squad and coaching staff in action.

The atmosphere at Orlando Stadium was electric, as fans packed the venue to welcome the eleven new signings and new coach, Abdeslam Ouaddou.

The Buccaneers’ performance was full of promise, with a seamless blend of fresh faces and established players. Three new players started the match, while four more made appearances off the bench, including the impressive Man of the Match, Oswin Appollis.

Among the debutants, Sipho Mbule and Sihle Nduli particularly stood out. Mbule’s quick touches and sharp play early in the match instantly won over the crowd, while Nduli put in a flawless performance, rarely putting a foot wrong. This instant chemistry between the new arrivals and the core team members bodes well for the season ahead.

For new boss Abdeslam Ouaddou, the victory was a significant first step. The Moroccan coach wasted no time in making his intentions clear, stating that winning the MTN8 is the team’s primary goal. “I think it’s a big victory for us but it’s not finished. We have to go through and the target is to win the MTN8,” he said.

The MTN8 quarter-final showed that while Pirates have a new look, their winning mentality remains the same. The club’s ambition is clear, and the seamless integration of new talent suggests they are well-equipped to challenge for silverware this season.

This weekend, Orlando Pirates fans can look forward to seeing this revitalized squad in action when they face Sekhukhune United in their opening league match. Kick off at the Orlando Stadium is set for 17h30 on Saturday, 09 August 2025.
