Sundowns officially confirm Williams' signing

Mamelodi Sundowns have officially confirmed signing Bafana Bafana goalkeeper and captain Ronwen Williams from SuperSport United.

According to the Sundowns website, the 30-year-old Williams signed a five-year-deal.

The keeper has spent his whole career at SuperSport playing in over 250 games, plus has so far been capped 25 times for his country.

Confirming the deal on the Sundowns site, Williams said: "I feel amazing, there is a lot of excitement, finally I'm here. I'm happy to be part of such a prestigious team in South Africa and in Africa as a whole, I feel at home already," said Williams.

"Sundowns has a wonderful record of adding trophies, I am looking forward to adding to the trophy cabinet.

"I have seen the Yellow Nation at the stadium, I've witnessed the atmosphere that they create for the players, they really are the 12th man and I'm excited to play for them – I am going to give my utmost best," he added.

SuperSport CEO Stanley Matthews called Williams a legend of the club. "Ronwen is a beloved son and legend of the club who has entrenched his place in the history books as the longest-serving and most-capped player in the club's history.

"It's rare to find loyalty in football any more, which makes our 18 years with Ronwen truly remarkable. We are very proud that we could produce a player from the tender age of 12 and enable him to reach his childhood dreams by playing for and captaining his club and country.

"Ronwen leaves us with trophies in the cabinet and very special memories, and we wish him every success in life and for his future career at Mamelodi Sundowns."
