Depay happy to depart Barcelona for free

Barcelona forward Memphis Depay is reportedly happy to walk away from the club if his contract is terminated over uncertainties pertaining to his future.

According to Helena Condis, the 28-year-old Memphis is content to leave Barcelona a free agent but the Catalan Giants are hoping to get €15 million for his sale which complicates things.

In June 2019, Depay left Lyon and joined Barcelona on a free two-year deal, which made his future at the club look good.

However he has endured mixed fortunes at Barcelona since joining, but ended the 2022 season as the clubs to scorer in all competitions with 13 goals.

Memphis does not seem to be part of coach Xavi Hernandez's plans going forward, having signed Raphinha and renewing the contract of Ousmane Dembele.

Now with the arrival of Robert Lewandowski from Real Madrid, Depay looks more than likely to be a bench-warmer and very little else in the Catalans setup.

Due to their well-publicised financial struggles its unlikely that Barcelona will ever terminate Depay's contract when they could get €15 million from his sale from the right suitor.

So far, Premier League side Tottenham have been showing interest in the striker but whether they are prepared to pay €15m for his services is what needs to be negotiated by all parties.
