Fleurs: I can't play football for the sake of it

Luke Fleurs says he may be forced to leave SuperSport United if they cannot match his ambition for trophies.

The 22-year-old has excelled with Matsatsantsa following his switch from Ubuntu in 2018.

SuperSport were perenial league winners from 2007 to 2010 but have not won silverware since claiming the 2019 MTN8.

They had been in a rebuilding phase with numerous young players doing duty  for the recently-sacked head coach Kaitano Tembo and must now seemingly start all over again when a new manager is found.

The Young Defender of the Season award has reportedly been linked with Kaizer Chiefs, and says he will consider a move when his contract expires at the end of next season.

Fleurs told Soccer Laduma: "I want to win trophies. I have been at SuperSport for four years, and now we have lots of young players, and we are trying.

"But mostly, it seems like it is about rebuilding and developing here at SuperSport at the moment. I am eager to win. I can't just play football for the sake of it.

"But I would say I have to go to a different club. SuperSport is also a big club, but this rebuilding is dragging me. Even though I am still young, I feel like I have experience now in the PSL.

"I am ready to play with the more experienced guys hungry to win trophies. So, I hope SuperSport will make some good signings next season. If not, let's see; I will take it from there as my contract with the club ends in 2023."
