Marcelo confirms Real Madrid departure

Real Madrid captain Marcelo confirms he will be leaving the team after over 15-years at the Spanish club.

The 34-year-old Marcelo will leave during the summer transfer window.

During an interview with journalists after Real Madrid's UEFA Champions League triumph, Marcelo revealed that he will depart from the Santiago Bernabeu as a free agent in the summer transfer window.

"It's an incredible emotion because it's my last game at Real Madrid. Leaving with a Champions League is a huge joy. It isn't a sad day. You talk about things," said Marcelo.

"We've spoken and we've decided it's best like that. I've already done everything I had to do at Madrid.

"I've been lucky to be here for 15 and a half years at the best club in the world."

Marcelo will likely return to Brazil, with former side Fluminense among the clubs looking to land him.

In January 2007, Los Blancos signed Marcelo from boyhood club Fluminense and now after over a decade and a half at Real Madrid, making 545 appearances, amassing 38 goals and 103 assists he leaves.

The defender will go down in history as Real Madrid's most successful player, winning 25 trophies in the last fifteen and a half years with Los Blancos.
