Ofori praises teammates and supporters for Bucs win

Richard Ofori

Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Richard Ofori proves his worth in the penalty shootout which saw Bucs overcome Simba SC 2-1 on aggregate to reach the CAF Confederation Cup semi-finals.

The Buccaneers will next be up against Al Ahly Tripoli in the semi-finals next month.

The home side opened the scoring via Kwame Peprah's goal in the 60th minute but the game had to be decided on a penalty shootout after the match was locked at 1-1 on aggregate after full time, with Simba having won the first-leg 1-0 last week.

In the shootout it was the 28-year-old Ofori who delivered when Bucs needed him most on Sunday by saving the first penalty then he scored the final one to hand his side the 4-3 shootout win and a place in the semifinals.

After the match, Ofori praised his teammates and thanked Pirates supporters, who gave their full support at Orlando Stadium.

"The game was very tough, we had a good game from the start until the end. We thank the fans for their amazing support since day one," said the Ghanaian shot-stopper.

"Since they opened the stadium for the supporters, they have been supporting us from home until the stadium.

"So this is a very important win for the country, for the fans and for our families," Ofori said.
