Ashley du Preez ignores Kaizer Chiefs links.

Stellenbosch FC forward Ashley du Preez says he is ignoring the persistent talk linking him to a potential move to Kaizer Chiefs.

On Saturday, Stellenbosch host Chiefs in a league clash and AmaKhosi will certainly get a second taste this season of what the 24-year-old striker is all about.

In 24 games this season, Du Preez has scored seven goals along with three assists and he coincidentally scored the goal in their 1-0 victory against Chiefs in the league clash on 2 November at FNB Stadium.

In an interview carried by The Sowetan, Du Preez admitted he was very happy playing where he was and was ignoring talk of rumours linking him to an AmaKhosi move.

"I am happy where I am. I am more focused on Stellenbosch... I want to contribute for this team. So, I am not focused on rumours," Du Preez said.

Du Preez, who was born and bred in Stellenbosch, can't wait to play again in front of his home crowd again on Saturday now that the Covid stadium restrictions have been lifted.

"The return of fans means a lot to me. Growing up here in Idas Valley, the community supported me, so it's great to have them watching me again at Danie Craven Stadium.

"I promise that we'll give the fans a nice show," he added.

Saturdays fixture will also be the first match Chiefs play without coach Stuart Baxter, who was fired on Thursday, which makes this a tricky match as it is unclear how AmaKhosi will play now that assistant coaches Dillon Sheppard and Arthur Zwane take charge.
