De Reuck: We want to create our own legacy

Rushine De Reuck says now is not the time for Bafana Bafana to celebrate their achievements.

The South African national football team are on top of Group G after an impressive start to their 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign.

Bafana drew with Zimbabwe before overturning both Ghana and Ethiopia.

Goals from Teboho Mokoena, Mothobi Mvala and Evidence Makgopa saw off the Walias on the road on Saturday.

Ahead of Tuesday's home clash against the same opposition, the Mamelodi Sundowns centre-back explained that South Africa need to remain focussed.

He said in the Sowetan: "Team spirit is very high in the team. We all want to achieve the same thing and that is to qualify for the World Cup.

"We are all working hard for each other collectively, and once we do that, it is very possible to qualify.

"Having said that, we just have to continue going. We are halfway there. We can't rest on our laurels now. Hopefully, with the fans back, we will give them positive results to be proud of."

De Reuck added: "It is a new generation and we want to create our own legacy and that’s what we are trying to do now.

"It is everyone's dream to play in the World Cup. Like I said, we are halfway there, we need to continue together as a team like we have, approach every game with a good mindset and good mentality."
