Mokwena: Makgalwa will benefit from loan spell

Keletso Makgalwa

Rulani Mokwena says Rulani Mokwena decided to let Keletso Makgalwa leave on loan as they felt he had 'stagnated' at the club.

The 24-year-old winger made the step up to the Sundowns first team from the reserves in 2017.

He was sent on loan to Maritzburg United the following season and has now joined Swallows on loan.

Mokwena has explained the decision for the move.

He told Soccer Laduma: "The Keletso situation is a very simple one. We are grateful Swallows showed an interest and the coach Brandon Truter not only believes in youngsters, but believes in Keletso.

"That's very good, because when we looked at his career and went deeper into his pathway, we then realised that he had stagnated quite a bit. And the little bit of experience we have with regards to working with young players is that they reach a certain point where you've got to make decisions and sometimes the decision is to keep him, train him, coach him and he might not get a lot of game time, but because of the coaching, you stimulate a lot of development and improvement in his game.

"But then you also have situations where you either have to sell or loan the player.

"Selling, by definition, means you feel that the player no longer has a future at the club. Loan, by definition, is that the player has a future at the club, but needs to fast-track his development.

"That psychological development from Keletso, training and playing with a lot of pressure...that will help him to be prepared to deal with the pressure of helping Mamelodi Sundowns."
