Davids: We've got to get the job done

Ernst Middendorp and Fadlu Davids

Fadlu Davids says he and fellow Orlando Pirates assistant coach Mandla Ncikazi have been given the mandate to win the club's DStv Premiership opener with Stellenbosch on Saturday.

The duo have been put in charge of the team following the shock departure of head coach Josef Zinnbauer this week.

While the pair haven't been officially named as caretaker coaches, Davids is looking to pick Bucs up from their Carling Black Label and MTN8 defeats to claim all three points at the Orlando Stadium.

He said in the Sowetan: "Coach Mandla and I have been given a mandate to win on Saturday.

"We've got to get the job done on Saturday and that's it. We come a long way, we've worked together before [at Maritzburg United] and we share the same football idea."

Davids added: "We want to play good football. We want to play high intensity football and be a really hard working team even when we don’t have the ball.

"In the two training sessions we had, our task was to bring back the Orlando Pirates' style of play.

"Our other task is to win. We want to have that compactness and when we have the ball we want to see it running on the ground, playing free flowing football."
