Hollywoodbets Super League Women: Gameweek 6 Preview

JVW will be looking to replicate last week's hard fought victory

Every South African women footballer wants to be part of the Banyana Banyana squad set to face Mozambique and then possibly the winners of Algeria & Sudan, seeing as two victories will book the nation’s ticket to the 2022 Women’s AFCON in Morocco, as well as securing automatic qualification to the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia & New Zealand.

What better way to put yourself into coach Desiree Ellis’ plans than to showcase your talent in the Hollywoodbets Super League. Just a few weeks are left until the crucial Banyana qualifiers with many of our players enjoying a rich vein of form.

We aim to keep you informed about the latest in women’s football in Mzansi, but for now take a closer look at our betting preview that could make us some extra cash this weekend!

Saturday 29 May

Bloem Celtic Ladies 9/2
Draw 24/10
Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies 6/10
(15:00)

Bloemfontein Celtic midfielder Kgalebane Mohlakoana scored her second hat-trick in two weeks during the 3-2 win against Richmond United, away at the Merino Stadium, De Aar.

Siwelele have now claimed three straight wins, scoring three times in each clash. Following a slow start to the campaign, the ladies from Free State now find themselves in fine form coming into their toughest test against the defending champions.

Mamelodi Sundowns ladies have begun their title defence in immaculate fashion, winning all five games, while impressively conceding just twice. Despite making seven changes from their previous game, coach Jerry Tshabalala’s girls displayed their dominance in the second half, running out 4-0 winners.

The hosts will put up a proper fight, but I fully expect the Brazilians to make it six wins on the trot.

Richmond United Ladies 11/10
Draw 21/10
Ma Indies Ladies 23/10
(15:00)

Richmond United will be looking to get back to winning ways after playing out to a 1-1 stalemate with Tsunami Queens and last week’s disappointing 3-2 defeat to Celtic.

Interestingly, on the betting front, each of the KZN’s club’s matches has seen both team’s score. Nthabiseng Majiya became the first player to net 10 goals this season and it would come as no surprise to see her name on the scoresheet for the sixth straight game.

Ma Indies Ladies claimed their first victory of the campaign with a convincing 5-1 win over Tsunami Queens. The heat factor that comes with the 15:00 kick off in Durban won’t affect the team from Limpopo. At 21/10, my money is on a share of the spoils.

Thunderbirds Ladies 47/10
Draw 5/2
JVW Ladies 11/20
(15:00)

Thunderbirds Ladies come into this encounter as heavy underdogs after failing to win their last four league games, scoring just once in the same period. The East Londoners will be hoping to keep the scoreline respectable after being humbled 4-0 by a Sundowns ‘B-team’ last weekend.

JVW must have their sights sets on the league title. The quality is definitely there with the likes of Banyana Banyana’s Kaylin Swart and Amanda Dlamini adding stability among playmakers Robyn Moodaly and Gabriela Salgado, who scored a cracking free-kick from 30 yards out against TUT Ladies.

With Salgado in fine form, scoring some worldies, bank on JWV at 11/20.

TUT Ladies 9/2
Draw 24/10
First Touch 6/10
(15:00)

Football in the top-flight doesn’t get any easier for the former Varsity team. After suffering defeats to Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies (4-1) and JVW (2-0), the ladies from Pretoria next play host to the in-form First Touch FC.

Following a brilliant start of four straight wins, the visitors lost ground on Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies last weekend by dropping points against UWC Ladies, sharing the spoils in a 1-1 draw. Back First Touch to get back to winning ways at 6/10.

University of JHB Ladies 8/10
Draw 23/10
Durban Ladies 3/1
(15:00)

University of JHB come into the clash winless in three matches and will be optimistic in claiming maximum points against Durban Ladies, who’ve lost all five of their games.

The girls from eThekwini will be aiming to pull up their socks and score more goals. Just two goals from the opening month of action is not good enough, but luckily there’s plenty of time left to remedy the situation. The time is upon us for Banyana Banyana’s 18-year-old superstar Lonathemba Mhlongo to shine.

I’m going against the bookings in this one and taking Durban Ladies on the Win/Draw Double Chance at 17/20.

UWC Ladies 12/10
Draw 2/1
Coal City Wizards Ladies 21/10
(15:00)

UWC Ladies are fifth on the log standings with two wins, two draws and a narrow 1-0 defeat to log-leaders Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies. Statistically, coach Thina Mbuli’s side have the second-best defence in the league to this point and will be looking to build on their decent start to the season.

Khanya Xesi salvaged a 1-1 draw against First Touch FC last time out with a superb left-footed finish which found its way into the top corner.

Coal City Wizards come off back-to-back wins over the bottom two, beating Durban Ladies (2-1) and (5-0) against Golden Ladies.

The betting suggests that the draw is the favoured outcome, however, I’m expecting Xesi to make a much-deserved start and inspire her team to victory over the Mpumalanga outfit.

Sunday 30 May

Tsunami Queens 19/20
Draw 22/10
Golden Ladies 5/2
(15:00)

Tsunami Queens return home to Harrismith smarting after a 5-1 humbling in Giyani at the hands of Ma Indies Ladies. The hosts will be looking to add to Golden Ladies woes but are also struggling, going winless in their last four games, including three defeats.

Golden Ladies earned their first win of the campaign, narrowly edging University of JHB 1-0 after four defeats on the trot. The visitors have scored just twice, they desperately need to improve to leapfrog a pack of five teams that are within touching distance.

My money is on these sides to cancel out each other at 22/10.

QUAD @ 77/10
JVW Win 11/20
UWC Win 12/10
First Touch Win 6/10
Mamelodi Sundowns Win 6/10
