Mhlongo can't wait to start playing again

Bidvest Wits goalkeeper Brighton Mhlongo is excited at the prospect of restarting the Premier Soccer League.

The 29-year former Orlando Pirates and Chippa United shotstopper is preparing to return to training with the rest of his squad.

The PSL has been suspended for three months, following the outbreak of the coronavirus, but plans are currently underway to ensure the completion of the current campaign.

Despite the future of the Wits' players remaining an unresolved question, after the sale of the Clever Boys to Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila, Mhlongo is eager to get playing again.

Speaking to the club's official website, he said: "I'm very much excited, really looking forward to it. It's been long and I believe we've never been out for so long without being on the field.

"I'd be lying if I said I feel strong and ready although I know I’ve always had that strong character and the will power to keep soldiering on, no matter the circumstances.

"It hasn't been that easy because as much as we’ve been busy with isolation training programmes it’s still not the same as being out on the field, doing what we love with the group."

Mhlongo added that he is looking forward to competing against Mamelodi Sundowns in the Nedbank Cup semi-finals.

"Well it's always an exciting and great spectacle for everyone even though it’ll be played behind closed doors, it will still be one of those games you’ll be expecting fireworks, so I hope both teams will prepare well enough so that when the time comes, it will live up to the hype," he said.
