Orlando Pirates striker Gabadinho Mhango says the players should get just as much credit as the coach for the team's recent results.

The Buccaneers have won six straight matches in the league since German coach Josef Zinnbauer took over the reins from Rulani Mokwena in December.

Malawian forward Mhango, who is the league's top-scorer with 14 goals, feels the players at the Soweto giants have turned around their fortunes after a tough start to the season.

Mhango said, according to Kickoff: "I think it was not about the coach.

"At the end of the day, as players, no matter which coach comes, because sometimes coaches come and go.

"As players, everyone was like, 'Come on guys, we need just to play for the fans and the badge of Orlando Pirates', and that's what is important [in the team's turn around]."

Pirates' recent run has seen them move to within six points of log leaders and Soweto rivals Kaizer but Mhango says his team should not be thinking about the PSL title race.

"Us we are not playing for the league, we are playing for the three points. We need to take every game as it comes," Mhango said.

"We're not talking about the league now, we're just focussed on collecting three points - as long we get three points, [the rest doesn't matter]."
