Krol: Coaching in South Africa still on my mind

Former Orlando Pirates coach Ruud Krol
Former Orlando Pirates coach Ruud Krol admits coaching in South Africa again is "still on my mind" as he ponders his next move in football.

Krol is currently coaching Tunisian side CS Sfaxien but his contract is coming to an end in June.

A former Netherlands international, Krol enjoyed a successful spell with the Buccaneers where he won three major trophies in 2011 and has not ruled out a return to coach in the country.

Krol told Dutch publication Algemeen Dagblad: "My contract runs until the summer [June]. Going to South Africa as a coach once more, that is still on my mind.

"What a beautiful country [South Africa is]. Dangerous? Yes, if you take the wrong turn, sure. But, in fact, the same also applies in Amsterdam or in Naples [Italy]."

Krol also shared his experience of coaching and travelling on the African continent for so many years.

He continued: "I have worked in Egypt, Morocco, Libya, and in Tunisia but, I have never experienced any hostility.

"The people are friendly. We recently went to Nigeria with CS Sfaxien, and I have never felt unsafe anywhere.

"The adventure has always attracted me. At Sfaxien we play for the Caf [Confederation] Cup; it's great to experience it again.

"The travelling makes it tough. When we play in Zambia, we are sometimes on the road for 24 hours on our way to a game.

"There is almost never a direct flight, and you just hang around at airports."
