Chiefs target Cape Town City in the Nedbank Cup

Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp with assistant coach Zwane
Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp says the club are focused on preparing for their hotly-anticipated Nedbank Cup quarter-final against Cape Town City on 31 March at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit.

It appears the competition could be Chiefs' last chance of silverware with their Premiership title challenge all but over after last Friday's 1-1 draw with SuperSport United.

The Glamour Boys are in seventh position with a seven point deficit behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns in first.

Explaining some defensive changes made in the contest against SuperSport last week, Middendorp said: "We brought Teenage Hadebe on for Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya, because we noticed their strategy.

"They also tried to pull Daniel Cardoso out of position. Bringing on Teenage stabilised our defence."

The German mentor added that the FIFA international break would allow time for his team to prepare to face the Citizens, who have been on fire in terms of form in 2019.

He concluded: "Our focus will be on the game against Cape Town City. The next two weeks will allow us some preparation time and we look forward to that encounter."

With a semi-final berth at stake, it could be the game of the round in the lucrative tournament in which the overall winner collects a handsome R7 million.
