Khenyeza poised to join Maritzburg backroom staff

AmaZulu's veteran striker, Mabhudi Khenyeza, is on the verge of joining Premiership rivals Maritzburg United as assistant to head coach Muhsin Ertugral.

The 36-year-old will in all likelihood hang up his boots for good, as he is ready to move into the next chapter of his professional football career.

While Khenyeza has reportedly already said his goodbyes to Amazulu team-mates, Maritzburg chairman Farook Kadodia says a deal has not yet been agreed between the two parties.

"I can't comment much about Mabhudi. I will see him today and negotiate a contract with him. Once everything is finished we will inform the public," Kadodia is quoted as saying by IOL.

Meanwhile, AmaZulu's team manager, Qedi Dlamini, says the Durban club won't stand in Khenyeza's way as he looks to make the transition into coaching with Martitzburg.

He said: "He has informed us about that. He is still contracted to us. We will sit down and discuss (about) his interest.

"He knows that we had a plan for him after his football career here at AmaZulu but we won't stand in his way. We will make a proper statement during the day about the latest on Khenyeza."

Khenyeza joined AmaZulu on a free transfer in June 2016, after being released by Golden Arrows at the end of the 2015/16 campaign.

He also counts Ajax Cape Town, SuperSport United, Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs amongst his former clubs.
