Mabedi open to continuing with Chiefs

Patrick Mabedi interim coach of Kaizer Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs interim coach Patrick Mabedi says he would take the job on a full-time basis if handed the opportunity, and is satisfied with his team's efforts.

The former Glamour Boys defender took over from Steve Komphela in late April after a 2-0 defeat to Free State Stars in a Nedbank Cup semi-final, and has picked up two wins and a loss in three Premiership matches.

Having claimed six points from a possible nine under Mabedi, Chiefs finished in third and qualified for the CAF Confederation Cup next season.

Speaking to reporters, the 44-year-old said he would relish the chance of taking the head coaching role on a permanent basis: "Yes of course. Because when you are there, you can't say no if you are given something but my objective (was) just to finish these remaining games on a high."

The Malawian added that finishing in third was a respectable end to what was a challenging campaign. He added: "It was not an easy season for us, we should at least get one silverware, we know the only credit to give back to the supporters is to finish third on a respected position.

"We can't try and to rely on another team to do it for us we need to do it by ourselves, so this is only an objective that we had and we made the players aware that we need to make sure we go out there and do our best so that we can finish at third which gives us an opportunity to play in Africa."
