Sevilla have confirmed the appointment of former Chile coach Jorge Sampaoli to replace Unai Emery as manager of the club on a two-year deal.

Emery, who oversaw three consecutive Europa League wins in his time at Los Rojiblancos, recently vacated his position amidst rumours he is being courted to replace Laurent Blanc at Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain.

Sampaoli has been a free agent since he stepped down from his post in charge of the Chile national team. The 56-year-old was also on the shortlist for 2015 FIFA World Coach of the Year for guiding them to Copa America glory.

"Sevilla are counting on the best coach of America in 2015, who begins his first adventure in Europe," read the club's statement.

Emery's contract with the Andalusians was only due to expire next year, but he was allowed to leave following an agreement of early release by both parties.

"With 106 victories, he is the coach with the most wins at Sevilla in domestic and international competition and the second coach behind Joaquin Caparros with the most games managed, 205," the statement continued. "We wish Emery the best of luck in his next adventure."
